January 2012

Ms. Evelyn – Music
Happy Valentine’s Day!! The children and I will be singing about LOVE this month. One of my favorites is an old song that was popular in the 1960’s, “I told the witch doctor I was in love with you”. Our Christian songs will be “Put a Little Love in you Heart” and “His Banner over me is Love”. Then for the children’s favorite activity, we will be playing instruments to a song about the German Measles. The last week in February the 4-year old classes will have a lesson on the instruments of the orchestra. We will watch a Sesame Street Video “Peter and the Wolf”. It will be a fun and fast-paced month.
I will sing of your strength, in the morning. I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. Psalm 59:16

Ms. Lori – Two-day twos
January was a great month! I just can’t believe it’s over already! We had fun in preschool learning about winter, even though we didn’t experience it when we were outside! We also learned about community helpers. In February we’ll spend most of the month learning about animals; farm animals, zoo animals and house pets. If you have a house pet that you would like to bring to school to visit with the class please let me know. The last week in February we will be going on a “camping trip”. During the week we’ll have fun in class doing all those things we love to do when we go camping! We’ll make s’mores, go fishing and play in the sand! It’ll be an exciting week! We will also continue to learn the letters of the alphabet and cover letters Q, R, S, and T. We will have activities and weekly cooking projects to go along with our letters of the week. February will also be my last month at school. Ms. Missy will be visiting our class for a couple of days towards the end of the month to get to know all the kids, so hopefully it will be an easy transition for all. She will take over teaching our class on March 1st and she’ll finish out the school year. It has been a GREAT year in our class! I have truly enjoyed each child and I want to say “thank you” to all you parents for all the help you have been this year. I have been blessed to have such a great class! If there is anything concerning you, or anything you would like to talk about, or know about before I leave please let me know. I look forward to another great month!! Happy birthday blessings to Brooke on February 5th!

Ms. Stephanie – Three-day twos
We had a wonderful month getting back into our routine after the holidays. We have been doing a lot of counting in class so be sure to ask your kids to count for you! They are awesome at it!!! Our Valentine’s party will be on February 14. Be sure to look for the sign up sheet outside our classroom if you haven’t found it already. I have also put a list of the kids’ names in your child’s basket. Please bring one Valentine per child to be handed out on the 14th. Our lessons will focus on pets, Valentine’s Day, being helpers and loving one another. February is also dental health month so we will focus on keeping our teeth clean and healthy. We will also continue working on the alphabet and shapes.
Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

Ms. Kelly – Two-day threes
It never fails the one month we focus on Winter, the temperature is in the 70's. We managed to do a few "cold" activities. We were able to make snow, a snowman, and snowflakes. In February we will focus on Hibernation, Bears, and Friendship. This semester my goal is to make more class and individual books. We are in the process of making a shape book. When we talk about Hibernation and Bears we will make a class book. It is so fun to see the connection and illustrations that your kids are making. Also starting in February we will start learning the Pledge of Allegiance. We will say this every morning at our calendar time. Also, during calendar time we have started singing a song that enforces the letters and their sounds. Around Valentines we will focus on Friendship. Part of our party will involve eating our Friendship mix. More on this to come! We have no birthdays this month. Thanks for all you do!!

Ms. Mindy – Three-day threes
What a GREAT first month of the year 2012! We were so busy and continue working through our alphabet. We will be finishing up the letter P through the first couple of days of February and we will be all the way to letter T by the end of the month! We will also have our Valentines Day party and Georgetown Pediatric Dentistry visiting for Dental Health Month. Wow, how time flies :). We continue to work on our numbers, shapes, colors and calendars, weekly. I have also started working more on a one on one basis to get a better feel of where everyone stands. Thank you all for your contributions for our cooking, I know the kids love our cooking time and it helps me out a great deal. :) Looking forward to another great month and our upcoming Valentines Day party!

Ms. Debra – Three-day threes
Another month has come and gone. The kids are doing great so far this 2nd half of the year. They are really focused and working hard. We are trying really hard to use our words and not our hands to let friends know what we want or need. This is difficult for some of the kids, but I am seeing progress with each and every one of them everyday.

We made milkshakes, nachos, squeezed our “own” orange juice, and popped fresh popcorn. A big THANK YOU to my parents who supplied the cooking supplies this month. The kids really look forward to cooking their own snack.

We will be covering Q, R, S and T this month, along with dental awareness and special valentine bags and cards. We will continue to work on counting to 20. Our Spanish word for the month is el brazo- arm. Our number book and our “brown bear brown bear” book will be done in the following months.
We have had some sick kiddos in our class, so we have been working on coughing and sneezing into our elbow, extra hand washing and I have been doing some extra cleaning at the end of the day.
We will have an exciting February with getting ready for Valentine’s Day and our class party.
Happy Birthday to Hudson and Amanda!

Ms. Margaret – Fours
I just cannot believe how fast this year is going! It is already February, and I feel at times that we just started. So much happened in January, and the growth has been tremendous. The children’s listening skills and following directions have so improved. I am so very proud of each and every one. We will finish up January with the letter O with lots of fun things planned from owls to ostriches. Before going into the things we will be doing in February, we all want to congratulate Elia and her new baby brother that was born December 30th. Mom and baby are doing great. Elia’s mom came to school the other day with the adorable Coen who was born December 30th! Congratulations to all!

February will be jammed-packed with art and centers and songs and games. We will continue with the alphabet and be working on the letters P, Q, and R and maybe S. Our cooking activities will be based around those letters along with our art projects and centers in class. Activities at calendar time will increase with saying and counting to 50 by the end of February. Each day we review the numbers and letters and talk about the months of the year and days of the week. Our writing the letters and starting journal writing will be a key item this month. On February 7th Elia will be turning 5, and on February 8th Seth will also be turning 5! Happy Birthday to both of you!!

Ms. Andrea – Fours
Just like all the other months of the year....January flew by! I can't wait to jump into February. I am still dreaming of a "white winter." The last 2 years have produced at least a little snow - and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it happens again. Until then- we have lots of things to keep us busy!
This month we will be focusing on the letters: O, P, Q, and R. We will make Ocean bottles and celebrate groundhogs day! We will make fresh homemade play-do, yummy popcorn balls and pepperoni pizza! We will make our own queen crown and try our hand at making quesadillas! We will discover what is at the end of the Rainbow and make our own rabbit treats!

We are also going to work on putting our ideas down on paper and will begin writing our very own stories! You will be amazed at how much your child has to share when they narrate their own drawings! So much fun!

We will celebrate Valentine's Day with an Ice Cream Sundae party! The sign up list is by the sign up sheet and you should have already received your list of class names to start working on your valentine cards. See me if you need a new copy or you can find the list on our class blog.
Thank you for all you do to make everyday in our classroom a success! I appreciate you!

Ms. Micki – Fours
In February, we will be studying the letters O-S. We will be making ocean bottles and orangutan bread. We will be learning about the ocean and opposites. We will be making popcorn balls and pizza for art. We will make polka dot pigs and sandy pink pigs. We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on the 14th with ice cream sundaes. We will paint with q-tips and eat quesadillas. We will watercolor a quail and add feathers for texture. We will eat a "rabbit" and "catch a rainbow" in science. We will use shapes to make a rocket.

During S-week, we will focus on space. We will also make a spider snack to eat, and we will play with shaving cream. During q-week we will talk about the pairing of q and u. During s-week we will talk about the sh-blend. While having lots of fun in February, our little brains are learning more and more!

Happy February!
